Neither Jeremy (clue 3), Rachel (4), Michael (6), nor Kristin (7) was last
to work on the Niagara Falls jigsaw, so either Courtney or Aaron was. If
Courtney had been last, the child who worked on the American Falls would have been
the 5th to work on the puzzle (5). By clue 3, Rachel, then the child who put
together Goat Island, and then the child who spent 40 min. worked on the
jigsaw consecutively. Courtney didn't work on Goat Island (9); nor did
she spend the 40 min. on the puzzle (4,5). The child who worked on the
American Falls couldn't have spent the 40 min. in clue 4, or Courtney would
have spent 0 min. (5), no (8). So, the three children in clue 4 are separate
from the two in clue 5. If Courtney had been 6th to work on the puzzle,
therefore, Rachel in clue 4 would have been 1st or 2nd. Trying Rachel 1st,
the child who worked on Goat Island would have done so 2nd and the one
spending 40 min. 3rd (4). By clue 7, Kristin and then the child who put
together the Maid of the Mist worked on the jigsaw, with Kristin spending
half as much time as the Maid of the Mist puzzler. Kristin can't be
the one who worked on American Falls (5). If she were the one who spent the
40 min., the child who worked on the Maid of the Mist would have spent 80
min. (7)--no (11). Kristin would have worked on Goat Island, and the one who
worked on putting together the Maid of the Mist would have spent 40 min.,
twice Kristin's 20 min. Since the six spent a total of 210 min. working on
the jigsaw (intro) and the last three who worked on it spent a total of 120
min. (1), Rachel would have spent 30 min. on the puzzle. However, then
Courtney would have spent 20 min. (2), the same as Kristin and a conflict
with the introduction where each spent a different amount of time. Trying
Rachel 2nd, the child who worked on Goat Island would have done so 3rd and
the one spending 40 min. 4th (4). Since Rachel didn't work on Maid of
the Mist (10), Kristin in clue 7 wouldn't have been 1st to work on the
Niagara Falls jigsaw. By clue 5, Kristin also wouldn't have worked on the
American Falls; nor, by clue 7, could she have been the one who spent 40 min.
Kristin would have worked on Goat Island, and the one who worked on putting
together Maid of the Mist would have spent 40 min., twice Kristin's
20 min. Since the last three worked on the jigsaw a total of 120 min., the
child who put together the American Falls and Courtney would have spent a
total of 80 min. together, with Courtney having spent 40 min. less (5). The
child who worked on the American Falls would have spent 60 min. on it and
Courtney then 20 min. on her part--the same as Kristin and a conflict with
the intro. So, Courtney could not have been the 6th to work on the Niagara
Falls jigsaw, and Aaron was. We have already established above that there is
no overlap between clues 4 and 5, so the child who worked on American Falls
and Courtney can't have been the 3rd and 4th to have worked the puzzle.
If the child who worked on the American Falls were 4th and Courtney 5th to
work on the puzzle, Rachel would have been 1st, the person who put together
Goat Island 2nd, and the one who spent 40 min. 3rd (4). Since Kristin in clue 7
can't be the one who worked on American Falls (5), Kristin would have worked
on Goat Island, and the one who worked on putting together the Maid of the
Mist would have spent 40 min., twice Kristin's 20 min. Since the six
spent a total of 210 min. working on the jigsaw (intro) and the last three
who worked on it spent a total of 120 min. (1), Rachel would have spent
30 min. on the puzzle. However, then Aaron would have spent 20 min. (2), the
same as Kristin and a conflict with the introduction where each spent a
different amount of time. If the child who worked on the American Falls were
2nd and Courtney 3rd to work on the puzzle, Rachel would have been 4th, with
the child who put together Goat Island 5th and Aaron having spent 40 min.
on the puzzle (4). Since Kristin in clue 7 can't be the one who worked on
American Falls (5), Kristin would have worked on Goat Island, and Aaron would
have worked on putting together the Maid of the Mist for 40 min., twice
Kristin's 20 min. Michael would have put together American Falls (6), and
Jeremy would have been 1st to work on the puzzle. However, Jeremy didn't
work on the Rainbow Bridge or the International Falls (3) and wouldn't have put
together the Canadian side (6)--so this arrangement cannot work. The
child who worked on the American Falls was 1st and Courtney 2nd to work on the
puzzle. Then Rachel would have been 3rd or 4th. If Rachel were 3rd, with the
child who worked on Goat island the 4th and the one who spent 40 min. 5th (4),
by clue 5, Kristin in clue 7 wouldn't have been 1st to work on the puzzle; nor by clues
7 and 11 could she have been 5th. Kristin would have worked on Goat Island,
and the one who worked on putting together the Maid of the Mist would have
spent 40 min., twice Kristin's 20 min. Then by clue 1, Aaron would have spent
60 min. on the puzzle. By clue 2, however, the 1st child would have spent
70 min., too long (11). So, Rachel was 4th, with the child who worked on
Goat Island 5th and Aaron having spent 40 min. (4). By clue 5, Kristin in clue
7 couldn't have been 1st to work on the puzzle. By clues 7 and 10, Kristin
couldn't have been 3rd. Kristin worked on Goat Island, and the one who worked
on putting together the Maid of the Mist is Aaron, with Kristin having spent
20 min. on the jigsaw. Rachel spent 60 min. (1), and the child who put
together American Falls spent 50 min. (2). Courtney spent 10 min. (5). By
elimination, the 3rd child spent 30 min. The 3rd child is Michael (6), with
Jeremy then 1st to work on the puzzle. Rachel put together the Canadian
side (6). By clue 8, Courtney worked on the Rainbow Bridge and Michael on the
International Falls. In sum, the six put together the Niagara falls jigsaw
puzzle by working on it as follows:
- 1st -- Jeremy, American Falls, 50 min.
- 2nd -- Courtney, Rainbow Bridge, 10 min.
- 3rd -- Michael, International Falls, 30 min.
- 4th -- Rachel, Canadian side, 60 min.
- 5th -- Kristin, Goat Island, 20 min.
- 6th -- Aaron, Maid of the Mist, 40 min.
