From the introduction, Sam Siteseer visited five lighthouses, each on a
different island, crossing bridges to get from the 1st to 2nd lighthouse,
the 2nd to 3rd lighthouse, the 3rd to 4th lighthouse, and the 4th to 5th
lighthouse. By clue 4, he drove across the Blackbeard Bay Bridge to go from
the Grace Harbor Light to the lighthouse on Barren Island. So, he visited
the Grace Harbor Light either 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. If Sam had seen the
Grace Harbor Light 1st, he would have then crossed the Blackbeard Bay Bridge and
visited the lighthouse on Barren Island 2nd. By clue 1, Sam crossed the
Romeo River Bridge in going from Seal Island to the Cape Louis Light; so
the lighthouse he saw on Seal Island would have been the 3rd or 4th one he
visited. If the Seal Island light were the 3rd lighthouse toured, the Cape
Louis Light would have been 4th, with the Romeo River Bridge crossed between.
By clue 3, then, the Cape Louis Light would be on Long Island, and Sam would
have crossed the Schooner Sound Bridge to see the Lovelady Light. However,
there is no way for clue 2 to work given this arrangement. If the Seal Island
light were the 4th lighthouse toured, the Cape Louis Light would have been 5th,
with the Romeo River Bridge crossed between. By clue 3, then, the Lovelady
Light would be on Seal Island, and Sam would have crossed the Schooner Sound
Bridge leaving Long Island. However, there is no way for clue 2 to work given
this arrangement. So, the Grace Harbor Light wasn't the 1st Sam visited.
If the Grace Harbor Light had been the 2nd Sam saw, he would have then crossed
the Blackbeard Bay Bridge and visited the lighthouse on Barren Island 3rd.
By clue 1, Sam would have toured the light on Seal Island 4th and the
Cape Louis Light 5th, crossing the Romeo River Bridge to get from one to the
other. However, there is no way for clue 3 to work given this arrangement.
So, the Grace Harbor Light wasn't the 2nd Sam visited. If the Grace Harbor
Light had been the 3rd Sam saw, he would have then crossed the Blackbeard Bay
Bridge and visited the lighthouse on Barren Island 4th. By clue 1, Sam would
have toured the light on Seal Island 1st and the Cape Louis Light 2nd, crossing
the Romeo River Bridge to get from one to the other. Again, however, there is
no way for clue 3 to work given this arrangement. So, the Grace Harbor Light
wasn't the 3rd Sam visited. He toured the Grace Harbor Light 4th, then crossed
the Blackbeard Bay Bridge and visited the lighthouse on Barren Island 5th (4).
By clue 1, Sam crossed the Romeo River Bridge in going from Seal Island to the
Cape Louis Light; so the lighthouse he saw on Seal Island would have been the
1st or 2nd one he visited. If the Seal Island light were the 2nd lighthouse
toured, the Cape Louis Light would have been 3rd, with the Romeo River Bridge
crossed between. By clue 3, then, Sam would have toured the lighthouse on
Long Island 1st, then would have crossed the Schooner Sound Bridge to see the
Lovelady Light 2nd. By clue 2, Cape Louis Light would be on Pilgrim Island.
However, there is no way for clue 5 to work given this arrangement. So, Sam
visited the Seal Island lighthouse 1st and the Cape Louis Light 2nd, going
over the Romeo River Bridge in between the two. By clue 3, the Cape Louis
Light is on Long Island, with Sam going from there over Schooner Sound Bridge
to climb the Lovelady Light 3rd. By clue 2, Lovelady Light is on Pilgrim
Island, and the Indian Inlet bridge goes from there to Outer Island. By
clue 5, the Montawk Light is on Seal Island and Saint Catherine's Light on
Barren Island. In sum, Sam Siteseer visited the five lighthouses in order
as follows:
- 1st -- Montawk Light on Seal Island, then over Romeo River Bridge to
- 2nd -- Cape Louis Light on Long Island, then over Schooner Sound Bridge to
- 3rd -- Lovelady Light on Pilgrim Island, then over Indian Inlet Bridge to
- 4th -- Grace Harbor Light on Outer Island, then over Blackbeard Bay Bridge to
- 5th -- Saint Catherine's Light on Barren Island
